Eiffel Tower, The Most Visited Monument In the World

We are talking about Paris’ Eiffel Tower today, in all its majesty, so buckle in for a good history lesson!

Located on the Champ de Mars in Paris, France, the 1889-built iron lattice Eiffel Tower is one of the most recognizable structures in the world and the tallest building in Paris.  Another noteworthy fact about this tower is that it is the sigle most visited paid monument in the world with millions of visitors ascending its lattice work every year.

Getting her name from designer and engineer Gustave Eiffel, the tower was originally built as the entrance arch for the 1889 World’s Fair but was kept on by the Parisians as a landmark which stands 1,063 feet tall.

Eiffel Tower’s New Reservation System

For $18.25 you will be able to reserve your way to the 906-foot-high observation deck without the line.  Beginning the end of this year you should be able to make use of the new system for no extra charge.

Bastille Day Celebrations 2009

paris-bastille-day-2009It’s almost Bastille Day, and you know what that means, the entire city of Paris celebrating and that should not be missed this year.

Starting on the evening of July 13th at the Place de le Bastille you can be a part of history with an enormous dance and music party which marks not only Bastille Day this year but also the Eiffel Tower’s 120th birthday.

If you can’t make it on the 13th, be sure to stick around for the fireworks and light show that starts at 10:45pm on July 14th.  And did we mention this is all free travel fun?!  Now we have your attention, huh?

Paris Hotel Le Général Rates More Affordable

Paris in the high summer season is never a very frugal experience, but Le Général is trying to give travelers to the French city a budget leg-up with falling rates.

Located near the République, this quaint hotel usually offers a standard double room for €185 per night, but right now a standard double in July is a mere  €140, with a single at €120.

Now there is simply no reason not to do Paris up right.
